Reflexology is a relaxing and beneficial
therapy that is carried out on either the hands or the feet. The ancient art of
reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years, it was first
practised by the early Indian and Egyptian peoples. The therapy was introduced
to the west in 1913 by Dr Willaim Fitzgerald. It was then further developed in
the 1930's by Eunice Ingham who observed that congestion or tension in any part
of the foot mirrors congestion or tension in a corresponding part of the body.
Thus when you treat the big toes there is a related effect in the
head
How Reflexology Works
Reflexology is a holistic therapy, which
means that ailments and conditions are not singled out and treated
individually. It can help with a number of common complaints and conditions.
When treating a client the whole foot is worked on thus the reflexes for the
whole body are stimulated.
The seven ways in which reflexology works:
Activates the body's own natural healing ability.
De-stresses and deeply relaxes.
Helps to normalise organ and gland function.
Helps rid the body of toxins and impurities.
Removes congestion and blockages from energy pathways.
Assists in the removal of waste material from the body.
Promotes the unblocking of the nerve impulses.
About The Treatment
The initial consultation with a
Reflexologist takes approximately an hour as a brief history is also taken.
There after the treatments are roughly 45 minutes long.
Tender
points when worked on indicate blockages in the energy pathways and this gives
an indication as to what is going on in the client's body.
Feedback to
the client is given throughout the session.
